And of all the places that get messy, the carpet is poised to take the top spot.

Carpet Cleaning West Seattle (Holiday Carpet Cleaning Tips) – Part 1

1. Clean Carpet Makes Everyone Feel More Comfortable

When you visit someone’s home and the carpets are visibly dirty, it puts you in a certain mental place. You don’t feel as comfortable. If it’s really dirty, you feel less welcome because the discomfort makes you feel awkward.

On the other hand, how do you feel when you’re invited in and the carpets look fantastic? You don’t want to leave! It may seem like we’re going heavy on the emotions here. But the state of your carpet plays a big role in your success as a host.

It uplifts the atmosphere of a room. The carpet, other than probably the walls, is the most visible part of a home’s interior. People notice it, no matter what. Decorations and furniture are great. But clean carpets is like a mental welcome mat to everyone who comes over.

2. Clean Carpet Makes Christmas Cleanup Easier

As with any messes, the longer you wait to take care of it, the worse the cleanup process will be.

Carpet stains are certainly no exception. Spills on the carpet during Christmas time are inevitable. It’s going to happen, no matter what precautions you take. Especially if you have kids or kids are going to come over.

If you don’t have your carpet cleaning West Seattle done before the rush of guests, you’re only making things harder. Stains and marks that were there before will become worse. Preexisting dirt and grime will get forced further into the carpet fibers.

Believe us when we say that starting the holiday festivities with a clean slate (a.k.a. clean carpets) is the way to go. It will make your Christmas cleanup so much easier and less expensive.

3. Clean Carpet Helps Your House Smell Christmasy

There are two places where the majority of household odors come from.

  • Garbage and food that hasn’t been disposed of
  • Carpets

Spills (including urine) that are left unattended or inadequately cleaned are a common source of odor in the home. And even if you don’t have a pet, odors can still come from the carpet. You don’t want your house smelling funny when people come over.

One of the worst things about odors in the home is that you get used to them. It’s usually the people who come over to your house that notice the smell. This is why you need to kill the odors at the source right when you catch a whiff.

In addition to carpet cleaning West Seattle, consider getting some scented candles or wax melters. Get some that smell like Christmas! Everyone loves the smell of Christmas. You know what we’re talking about.

4. Clean Carpet Makes Opening Presents More Sanitary

Where do your kids sit when they’re opening their presents? The floor. And during holiday family gatherings, there’s usually other people sitting on the floor, as well.

The floor needs to be sanitary. You don’t want to worry or be embarrassed about people sitting on the ground in your house. Get your carpet cleaning West Seattle done before the holidays start and you will rest at ease.

Part 1 – Conclusion

Present a fresh home this holiday season and invest in carpet cleaning West Seattle before everyone starts coming over. You’ll feel better. They’ll feel better. And your house will look better.

Carpet Cleaning West Seattle (Holiday Carpet Cleaning Tips) – Part 2

Here are specific tips on how to take care of some holiday-related spills on your own.

5. How To Clean A Cranberry Sauce Stain

Cranberry sauce is sticky so there’s one underlying thing to remember when cleaning sticky stuff. Don’t spread it around.

Step 1

Get a spoon and use it to scoop up as much of the cranberry sauce as you can. Do not press down into the carpet really hard.

Step 2

Get a pretreater pen and apply it to the affected area. (Don’t use a pretreater pen if the stain is on a dry clean-only item.) If you don’t have one, try this:

  • Get a clean cloth. Dip a portion of it into club soda.
  • Use the cloth to gently dab the affected area.
  • You can use cool water and dish soap instead of or in addition to.

Step 3

Step 3 applies only if the cranberry sauce spill is on a cushion.

Mix the following: 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 tsp of white vinegar. Sponge it gently onto the stain. Let it sit for 15 min. After 15 min, get a clean cloth and gently blot it dry.

If the spill happened on fabric that can be washed in the washing machine, do this:

  • Instead of letting it sit for 15 min, let it sit for only 10 min.
  • Put it in the washing machine and make sure it’s on the coldest setting.
  • Before switching it to the dryer, look at it and check if the stain is gone. If it’s not, DO NOT put it in the dryer. Repeat Steps 1-3 and put it through the wash again.

6. How To Clean A Dairy Stain

If you don’t get to milk spills soon enough, they start to stink. Get right on it. Don’t wait.

Step 1

Get a clean cloth and absorb the residue by gently pressing down on the affected area. It’s important that you get out as much of the liquid as you can during this step. Don’t step on it as a method of soaking up the dairy. Press gently and use as many cloths as necessary until they stop soaking up liquid.

Step 2

Get some dish soap and put a little bit on the affected area.

Step 3

Get warm water. Soak a new clean cloth in it. Wring it out and use it to gently make passes over the affected area.

Repeat these steps a few times if you feel it’s necessary.

Step 4

Step 4 applies only if the dairy spill is on upholstery.

  • Get some cornstarch or baking soda and sprinkle it onto the affected area. Let it sit for 15 min.
  • Get a vacuum and go over the affected area.
  • Optional: If you have a dry-cleaning solvent, apply it to the affected area.
  • Leave it as is overnight.
  • The next morning, apply a little bit of water.
  • Get a toothbrush. Use it to scrub the affected area gently.
  • Get a clean cloth. Use it to blot the area until the stain is no longer visible.

If the stain is on clothing, hold the item under warm water for a minute or so. Then, if you have a pretreater pen, use it. Let it sit for 20 min. Get a toothbrush. Use it to gently scrub the affected area for 15-30 seconds. Wash it in the washing machine on a warm-water setting.

7. How To Clean A Chocolate Stain

Step 1

Get something you can scrap with. A butter knife or something similar. Use it to gently scrap off as much of the chocolate as you can. Do you best to not spread it around or press it further into the carpet fibers.

Step 2

Get a clean cloth. Dip it in club soda. Use it to gently dab the affected area.

Step 3

Get another clean cloth and dip it in warm water mixed with dish soap (or laundry detergent). Use the cloth to gently dab the area. Wait 1 hour.

Step 4

Get another clean cloth. Soak it in cold water. Wring it out and use it to make passes across the affected area.

Repeat these steps if necessary and it should do the trick.

If the chocolate stain is on clothing, you can soak it in an equal mixture of dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit for an hour and then put it through the cold washing machine. If it’s still not coming out, soak it in oxygen bleach for 4-6 hours and put through the wash again.

8. How To Clean A Gravy, Lipstick, or Turkey Grease Stain (Oil-Based Stains)

Even more than dairy stains, oil-based stains need you to act quickly.

Step 1

Get paper towels and dab the area with gentle pressure. Keep doing this with more paper towels until they aren’t soaking up any more stuff.

Step 2

Get baby powder or corn starch. Either one should work. Sprinkle the area with it. Let it sit for 10 min. Then get a vacuum and suck up the powder using the hose.

If you don’t have baby powder or corn starch but you do have Castile soap, try this.

  • Use Castile soap and cover the affected area with it.
  • Wash your hands. Then use your fingers to work in the Castile soap into the stain.
  • Let it sit and then continue on to Step 3.

Step 3

If it’s still not coming out all the way, spray the area with a carpet cleaning product like this. Let it sit for 10 min. Use paper towels to gently blot it clean.

9. How To Clean A Candle Wax Stain

With a candle wax stain, you actually do not want to act immediately. Wait and let it dry before you do anything. It will be a lot easier to clean.

Step 1

Put ice cubes in a baggy and place it on the area. Or, use one of those ice packs you use to ice an injury. You just want to freeze the area. Let it sit for a long time; a few hours preferably. If you need to replace the freezing mechanism, do so.

Step 2

Get a butter knife or something to scrape with. Use it to gently scrape the wax off and out of the carpet. If there’s wax that has really melted into the carpet fibers, use a carpet product like this on the area.
