What to Expect

Sultan Osprey Park is the place to go to see thousands of pink salmon fighting their way up the Sultan River on their journey to spawn. This small park is an ideal sight for birders, but it also offers plenty of other amenities that make it a great choice for those in search of a day out in nature.

A sprightly celebration of the return of the salmon is always a big deal in this Washington town, especially during odd numbered years when the river is at its most spawning power. This year’s event, held on September 28, featured a free 5K Salmon Fun Run as well as an impressive array of food, entertainment and art. One of the more unique displays was a free tour of a Tulalip Tribal basket weaving demonstration, complete with a live performance from tribal members Lance and Tammy. This was the first time this small rite of passage has been made public, and it was definitely a highlight of the afternoon.

Parking

Sultan Osprey Park is a great place to explore the natural wonders of the area. This 85-acre park has two miles of trails that lead you through the forest and along the Sultan River.

This park also offers a front row seat for the annual return of salmon to spawn. On odd numbered years thousands of pink salmon travel up the Sultan River to lay their eggs on the banks in Osprey Park.

A fun and educational activity for the whole family is the 5K Salmon Fun Run held at Osprey Park on the last Saturday in September every year.

The park will soon be enhanced with new parking stalls, walking paths and a basketball court, thanks to a partnership between the City of Sultan and community groups. This project is a great example of what grass roots support can accomplish. The new parking area will help ease congestion on adjacent streets and make it easier for visitors to get around the park without having to use County roads.

Restrooms

Osprey Park has a plethora of amenities, from playgrounds and baseball fields to well-maintained trails and the state’s only mini-golf course. The best part is, there’s always something to do. Among the more popular activities is the annual 5k Salmon Fun Run on the last Saturday in September, which draws participants from far and wide. The Osprey Park is also home to the Sultan Science Museum, which is a worthy aquisition in its own right. The Osprey Park also happens to be a short walk from the town center, making it the perfect starting point for your next jogging adventure.

Osprey Park is a tame but fun place to explore for those with kids in tow, so get out there and enjoy the sunshine and let the good times roll! You may also want to take advantage of the many microbreweries and wineries in the area. One of the most impressive is the Sky River Mead, which produces an award winning mead and honey wine.
